After 28 appearances
in Liabilitiespoker, it’s probably fair to say a profile update is due!
Name: Ross Gibson
Nickname:
Lance
On-line
Poker name: None, still. I don’t make enough playing at Liabilities
to afford a PC, t’internet access etc
Online
Poker site (so we know where to find you!): Er, none as well.
Favourite
starting hand: OK, so I don’t just play A-A as previously stated. But no real favourite starter for me.
Favourite one
liner: If I’m doing well, ‘’Blinds
are up next hand: 200-400’’ is always fun.
Worst beat: I’ve avoided any shocker to date in Liabilities Poker. You can
all help me keep this run going by FOLDING ANYTIME I BET
Poker Story:
This is my best
from Liabilitiespoker:
Needing to make
at two final tables in the last two events of season 1 to make the Champions Trophy, I needed to pull something out of the
bag.
About an hour
in to event 13 (13 events in season 1, oddly) I get A-K suited and put in good a raise pre-flop under the gun. Folds round
Cathy who raises me from the Big Blind. I call. Flop comes down A-K-9. While I am busy trying to contain my excitement, young
Cathy pushes all in.
I then go in to
the think tank for about 10 minutes, allowing Cathy enough time to go for a shit and prompting Fish to put the clock of me.
I maybe spend 30 seconds considering she might have trip 9’s, K’s or A’s, and the other 9 and a half minutes
moaning to myself about why this has to happen to me and praying she has A-K.
Eventually I call
for all my chips, and I’m releived to see Cathy has the same hand – A-K. One split pot later I’m on the
march to 2nd on the night, and 2nd the following week, and cruise in to the champions trophy (just don’t
ask me how I got on there).
But I still live
these ones:
Nothing will come
close to the look on Fish's face on one hand way back in the early days of playing in our rented houses front room on plastic
garden furniture. Fish looked so smug when he showed down a full house, Kings over Aces, thinking he'd slow played me by check
calling me (the raiser) to the river, only to go a ghostly shade of white when I showed down A-A in the pocket to make 4 Aces.
However, best move has to be in one of our home games some
point last year. Some artistic license used, but this is how I remember it.........
We're down to 5 from 7
starters. Big Beard is dealing, with Fish on small blind, Beardy on big blind, then me, then Tweats. I'm deal Ace-something
suited in Hearts, and we call all round except for Tweats who folds. Flop comes down something like Q-8-2, all clubs. No good
to me but it's checked round so being behind the button I put in a small raise that scares off Fish but the two Beards call.
River comes down as an Ace of diamonds. Excellent. Beardy checks and I raise about 800, just over twice the big blind. Big
Beard folds (too rich even for him to play 7-2 offsuit) but to my surprise Beardy calls. Erm, not expecting that - must be
on a real good flush or straight draw because he should know better than playing queens there. Anyway, down comes the river
- another club. Beardy as quick as he can chucks in a raise of around 1500 chips. I, even quicker, re-raise all in,
to the tune of around 2000 more back at him. Somewhat in shock Beardy replays the hand to try and work out what on earth I
would play all in against a man declaring a flush. ''You bastard, you've got an ace because you bet on the Turn' he
says, fishing for a Tell. ''It would appear that way'' I reply. A few agonising moments later (for both of us) he folds down
and asks ''you did have the Ace of clubs didn't you''. ''I forget'' I reply, folding face down and collecting mountains of
chips! Ha!
What would you like us to think your table image is: I'd still like to think those
who know me give me a little credit for being a pretty well educated player with some amount of skill and subtlety? Maybe
a bit on the tight side.
